Gemini is getting a Projects feature to help you organize your AI chats

For frequent users of Gemini, managing numerous chats can become overwhelming, with conversations ranging from work-related research to personal trip planning often scattered throughout the interface. Locating an older chat amidst this clutter can feel like an uphill task.

In response to this issue, Google is currently testing an innovative feature named Projects within Gemini. This functionality aims to allow users to categorize their chats into specific folders, similar to the organizational tools already available in ChatGPT. While this feature has begun appearing for a select group of users, it is still undergoing development and is not fully operational at this stage.

Understanding the Projects Feature in Gemini

A Reddit user, known as @medazizln, was among the first to identify this new feature, sharing a screenshot that confirmed the presence of an “Add to project” option in the Gemini chat menu.

When users hover over any chat in the Gemini web interface, a three-dot menu icon becomes visible. Clicking this icon reveals a list of familiar options such as Share Conversation, Pin, Rename, and Delete. The newly added option, labeled “Add to project,” allows users to open a pop-up that lets them choose from their existing projects to assign the selected chat to one. However, it's worth noting that there is currently no functionality available to create a new project from this pop-up menu, indicating that the feature is still in the refinement stages.

Additionally, TestingCatalog News has shared screenshots confirming the feature's presence in the menus, suggesting that this may be an unintentional appearance rather than a planned rollout.

Future Availability of Gemini’s Projects Feature

As of now, Google has not provided any official timeline regarding when the Projects feature will be rolled out to a wider audience. Nevertheless, the fact that it is already visible to some users is a positive indication that a broader release could be on the horizon. Once officially launched, the chat Projects feature is expected to significantly enhance the usability of Gemini for individuals managing multiple ongoing conversations and tasks.

The introduction of the Projects feature aligns with Google's ongoing efforts to improve user experience within its applications, providing a more structured and efficient way to navigate through conversations. It promises to make Gemini a more valuable tool for users who juggle various discussions regularly.

Overall, the potential of the Projects feature in Gemini is an exciting development for users, offering a glimpse into how Google is aiming to enhance the functionality of its AI chat platform. As the feature continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how effectively it will cater to the needs of Gemini users.
